STALK-IT Quick Start Guide
Welcome to STALK-IT
STALK-IT is a real-time safety, communication and coordination platform designed specifically for deer stalkers.
Create a stalk, invite participants, define your stalking area and see everyone’s live location and status. Record sightings, mark shot sites, navigate directly to animals and provide instant emergency assistance when required.
This guide walks you through the complete STALK-IT workflow from creating an account to managing a live stalk.

1. Install the App
Download and install the STALK-IT app from the App Store or Google Play.
Once installed, open the app. Existing users can sign in using their email address and password. New users should tap Register.
2. Create Your Account
To register, complete the account creation form.
- Full Name – enter your real name as you would like it displayed to other users.
- Username – choose a unique username.
- Email – enter a valid email address.
- Password – create a password of at least 8 characters.
- Confirm Password – re-enter your password.
Tap Create Account. Once your account is created, you will be signed in automatically.
3. Complete Your Profile
Open the Profile tab from the bottom navigation bar.
From here you can:
- Add a profile photo
- View your name, username and email address
- Check your subscription level
- Access app settings
Adding a Profile Photo
- Tap the camera icon on your profile image.
- Choose a photo from your device or take a new one.
- Save your selection.
Settings
Tap Settings to choose:
- Metric – metres and kilometres
- Imperial – yards and miles
- Notification sounds on or off
- Vibration alerts on or off
4. Connect With Other Users
Before you can invite someone to a stalk, you must first connect with them.
Open the Contacts tab.
Option 1: Search by Username
- Tap Search or Find by Username.
- Enter the user’s exact username.
- Tap Send Request.
- Once accepted, the user will appear in your contacts list.
Option 2: Use a Connection Code
Connection codes are the quickest way to connect with another user.
To generate a code:
- Open Contacts.
- Tap My Codes.
- Tap Generate New Code.
- Share the code with the person you wish to connect with.
Each code is valid for 3 days and can only be used once.
To use a code:
- Open Contacts.
- Tap Enter Code.
- Enter the code you have been sent.
- Confirm.
Once complete, both users will be connected.
5. Create a Stalk
Open the Stalks tab.
To create a new stalk, tap the + button in the top-right corner.
Complete the stalk details:
- Name – give the stalk a clear name.
- Description – optional notes for participants.
- Planned Start – optional start time.
- Planned End – optional end time.
Tap Create Stalk.
The person who creates the stalk becomes the Lead Stalker.
6. Prepare the Stalk
After creating a stalk, the Stalk Overview screen allows the Lead Stalker to:
- Invite contacts
- Prepare the map
- Start the stalk
- Cancel the stalk
Inviting Contacts
- Tap Invite Contacts.
- Select one or more contacts.
- Tap Invite.
Invited users can then join the stalk and will appear in the participants list.
7. Prepare the Map
Tap Prepare Map to define the stalking area.
Creating a Boundary
- Ensure Polygon mode is selected.
- Tap the map to add boundary points.
- Add at least 3 points.
- Continue around the stalking area.
- Tap Save when complete.
Editing a Boundary
- Long-press a point to move it.
- Long-press a line to split it and add another point.
- Use Undo to remove the last point.
The boundary is visible to all participants, but only the Lead Stalker can create or edit it.
8. Start the Stalk
When the map is prepared and participants have been invited, tap Start Stalk.
The stalk becomes active and participants can see:
- The stalk boundary
- Participant locations
- Status icons
- Sightings
- Shot markers
- SOS alerts
9. Set Your Status
During a live stalk, tap the status button at the bottom of the screen to update what you are doing.
Available statuses include:
- Walking In – travelling to your position.
- In High Seat – settled in a high seat.
- Stalking – actively stalking on foot.
- Recovering Deer – following up or recovering an animal.
- Finished – no longer actively stalking.
Each participant has their own colour. The colour identifies the person; the icon identifies their current status.
10. Record a Sighting
Use Sighting to record deer or other wildlife seen during a stalk.
- Tap Sighting.
- Select the species.
- Tap and drag on the map to place the sighting marker.
- Use the arrow to show direction of travel.
- Confirm the sighting.
Sightings are visible to all participants and show the species, location, direction and time recorded.

11. Record a Shot
The Shot feature records where a shot was taken and helps participants locate the shot site afterwards.
- Tap Shot.
- Select the species.
- Select sex where required.
- Mark the shot site on the map or use the rangefinder.
- Select the result: Kill, Injured or Missed.
The shot marker appears on the shared map for all participants.
12. Shot Site Finder
STALK-IT allows users to mark the exact shot site in two ways.
Option 1: Tap the Map
Tap the map where the animal was standing when the shot was taken.
Option 2: Use the Rangefinder
If the animal was some distance away, tap Rangefinder.
The app uses:
- Your current location
- Your direction of aim
- The entered distance
STALK-IT then calculates the shot site and places the marker on the map.
Navigate to Shot Site
Any participant can double-tap the shot marker and choose Navigate.
The app then provides compass-style navigation and live distance to the recorded shot site.
Mark it. Share it. Navigate to it.
13. SOS Emergency Alert
The SOS feature is designed for situations where a participant needs immediate assistance.
- Tap SOS.
- Confirm that you want to send an emergency alert.
- Tap Send Alert.
All participants in the stalk receive a full-screen SOS alert showing who needs help.
Participants can tap Navigate to Casualty to be guided directly to the person who raised the alert.
The SOS alert remains visible until cancelled.
